NBC Affiliates Withholding Comcast Deal Approval Without Signed Assurances

Apr 13, 2010  •  Post A Comment

NBC affiliates are withholding their approval of the Comcast-NBCU deal until they receive signed assurances from both companies, NBC Affiliate Board Chairman Mike Fiorile tells TVNewsCheck.

The main concern from the affiliates is that NBC will eventually skip over the stations to offer programming directly to cable and satellite operators, Fiorile says. "We have largely an agreement in principle, but we don’t have a document we can file. That is really necessary," he tells the publication. Although Comcast and NBCU don’t need the affiliates blessing to get approval from the Federal Communications Commission and Department of Justice, it would help, TVNewsCheck points out.
