Trump Says ‘Amazing Race’ Doesn’t Deserve Emmy Wins

Apr 27, 2010  •  Post A Comment

Donald Trump wants an Emmy so badly for "The Celebrity Apprentice" that he’s gone public with his opinion that CBS’s "Amazing Race" only wins because the producers know how to play politics, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Since 2003, "Amazing Race" has won the Emmy as Outstanding Reality Competition Series. Trump declared, “It’s a shame that ‘Amazing Race’ keeps winning, because it doesn’t deserve to win it. It wins every year because they know how to politic the Emmys."

Regarding the Emmy voters, Trump told HR, "They’ve lost credibility. Instead of shows that deserve to win, they pick ‘Amazing Race.’ It’s a very sad commentary.”

  1. Trump is a moron. No matter what you say about the Emmy’s, they know better than to give this egomaniac one!

  2. Maybe The Amazing Race wins the Emmy for best reality competition show on television because it IS the best reality competition show on television. Did this thought never occur to The Donald?!

  3. Maybe Trump runs the best casinos in the country because he’s Donald Trump!!!
Wait a minute…his casinos are all bankrupt? He can’t host a decent reality show either.
    Loser.

  4. The Amazing Race wins every time because the Emmys are awarded by people who actually make television, and they recognize and appreciate just how difficult TAR is to pull off. If the degree of difficulty of producing one of the studio-based shows (DWTS, AI) in a completely controlled environment is a 1, and something like The Apprentice is a 2.5, and Survivor is maybe a 4, TAR is a 10. And yet the do pull it off season after season, subject to the whims of foreign government restrictions, airline schedules, weather, local equipment availability, and a hundred other logistical problems that DWTS or Project Runway never has to face. They do it with amazingly high production values — and they make it look easy. That’s why they win.
(Oh, and btw, Donald? If TAR didn’t win, The Apprentice still wouldn’t.)

  5. I think old Jeff was complaining about the same thing with Survivor. He wants a win, too!!! I didn’t think these awards were so important for self image.

  6. Lynn is right, but she missed one thing. TAR is also extremely entertaining. More than can be said for the vast majority of Reality Shows.

  7. Amazing Race wins because it is entertaining, there is suspense, there is gameplay, you can see when teams play dirty they rarely win and the race comes across as completely fair. TAR also shows how just when you think you’re in control, you’re not. Always fun!
The Apprentice is an ego show and it is very clear that the Donald is in control of the outcome no matter what, so NO ONE CARES. When he has to award a winner that he knows should win but he’d rather give it to someone else he belittles the accomplishments of the winner. He is a horrible man and a worse boss and a boring angry arrogant host.
I do wish Jeff Probst would win but not for his current hosting but for his early years when he was so engaging. Now he’s just phoning it in.

  8. If not Amazing Race, then either American Idol or Survivor. Celebrity Apprentice shouldn’t even be nominated (cancelled is more like it).
