Was Donny Deutsch’s Anchoring Gig on MSNBC Pulled Because He Criticized Keith Olbermann?

Was Donny Deutsch’s anchoring gig on MSNBC pulled because he criticized Keith Olbermann? That’s the angle pursued by the New York Times’ Media Decoder.

Ad maven Deutsch was supposed to anchor MSNBC’s 3p.m. hour all week, but he was pulled from those chores.

According to the article, [F]our people briefed on the decision said the cancellation stemmed from an unflattering mention of that channel’s No. 1 anchor, Keith Olbermann," by Deutsch.

The article also quotes Olbermann, in an email to the Times, saying, " ‘Your account is entirely untrue. Your e-mail is the first I am hearing of any of this. What I know of what happened is this: Phil Griffin phoned me yesterday enraged at what was on [Deutsch’s] show and I didn’t disagree with him.’ Mr. Griffin is the president of MSNBC."

  1. In the interest of understanding this story a bit more, could you please complete it by telling us exactly what it is that DD said?

  2. Well, boys, it seems we have a lack of several things here starting with HUMOR.
Seeing as how the article in question not only singled out Mr. Olbermann, but added Mr.’s Beck, O’Reilly and Limbaugh, it would seem to me that, from a journalistic view, all these personalities could, would and should be able to take some “cage shaking” without ruffling their feathers.
My, my, my, how serious we take our little media egos.
All, including Mr. Griffin, should take a cold shower and resume regularly scheduled programming.

  3. That’s not fair and accurate, that’s NBC!
