Democrats Push for Update of the Communications Act

May 25, 2010  •  Post A Comment

The last big update of the Communications Act was in 1996, when broadband was barely used by most consumers, and this hasn’t escaped the notice of the Democratic chairs of the House and Senate Commerce Committees and their Communications subcommittees,Multichannel News reports.

The chairs will kick off the process with a series of June meetings. "The move would also come as a growing number of congressional Democrats and Republicans are pushing the FCC to rethink its reclassification of broadband under the act’s Title II common carrier provisions and wait for Congress to give some new direction on broadband regulation," Multichannel News notes.
