In a last minute switch, Sony TV comedy pilot "Team Spitz" has replaced Bob Odenkirk with Kurtwood Smith, Deadline.com’s Nellie Andreeva reports.
Sony TV will reshoot the completed pilot before sending it to CBS, which has picked up the project. "I hear the switcheroo was made after "Team Spitz," starring Rob Riggle as the bombastic new basketball coach at an upscale private school, tested very well, the article says.
However, as the article points out, "Smith will be a guest star in the pilot as he is a regular on another CBS comedy pilot, ‘Hitched.’ "
But Odenkirk’s character, the school’s principal written as a complete jerk and a sanctimonious bureaucrat, didn’t do well," the article continues. Odenkirk was recovering from surgery and wasn’t able to do reshoots, so the role was recast with Smith.
Odenkirk is probably best known for HBO’s "Mr. Show with Bob and David."
