As the first completed pilot to get turned in to NBC, J.J. Abrams’ "Undercovers" becomes the first to get a series order from the network as well, the Hollywood Reporter says.
"Undercovers" is about a married couple, played by Gugu Mbatha-Raw and Boris Kodjoe, who are re-activated as CIA agents after years of retirement. It also marks the first time since the 2004 pilot of "Lost" that Abrams has directed a pilot. Abrams also co-wrote and produced the pilot.
Part of Abrams’ deal regarding the pilot required NBC to decide by today if the show was going to series or not, explaining the early announcement. Sources close to NBC executives said the decision was easy as the network loved the pilot.
