NBC to Sell Spanish-Language KWHY-TV in L.A.

NBC plans to sell or place Los Angeles’ Spanish-language KWHY-TV in a divestiture trust before its merger with Comcast, B&C reports, citing a filing with the Federal Communications Commission.

NBC had earlier asked the FCC for a temporary, six-month extension of a waiver to the FCC ownership rules, which allowed it to own three stations in the L.A. market (its other stations are KNBC-TV and Telemundo affiliate KVEA-TV; KWHY is an independent). But NBC told the FCC it doesn’t need the six extra months and will either have sold KWHY or put it in a trust by then, although the article says a buyer hasn’t yet been lined up. An NBC spokesperson declined to comment, the article said.
