Oprah Winfrey will be the force behind a new miniseries about the Civil Rights Movement with a focus on the life of Martin Luther King Jr. from 1954-1968, reports Deadline.com.

Though Oprah has a major partnership with Discovery Communications for the forthcoming Oprah Winfrey Network–OWN–this series will be made for HBO.

Harpo Films will oversee the seven-hour mini, "America: In the King Years," based on Taylor Branch’s Pulitzer Prize-winning trilogy, "Parting the Waters," "Pillar of Fire" and "Canaan’s Edge."

The screenwriter of "The Pacific," Robert Schenkkan, is working on the script, which will include the freedom rides, the Birmingham campaign, Selma, and Dr. King’s assassination.
