‘Jersey Shore’ Gets Hit With Another Lawsuit–This One Claims Violations of Racketeering Statutes

A lawsuit brought against producers of "Jersey Shore" and MTV claims the show violates New Jersey’s racketeering statutes after an altercation between a New Jersey resident and cast member Paul "DJ Pauly D" Delvecchio last summer, NJ.com reports.

A lawyer for Kenneth Hoffman said Hoffman was in a Seaside Heights bar and after a Mike "The Situation" Sorrentino made a "kissy face" at his friend at the bar, the two were grabbed by bar workers. While being held, Pauly D punched Hoffman, causing damage to his spine that needed surgery, Hoffman’s lawyer claims.

"Ocean County residents should not be used as props for this production company’s profits and ratings,” Hoffman’s lawyer said. “[Hoffman] was savagely victimized and sustained permanent injuries as a direct result of the defendants’ continuing course of profit-motivated criminal conduct.”

This lawsuit arrives on the heels of a New Jersey judge’s decision last Friday to hear a case brought against the producers claiming "criminal enterprise" by profiting off of airing fights that cast members on the show deliberately provoked.
