SelecTV Picked as Cable Industry’s Interactive TV Brand

Several cable groups have picked the name SelecTV as the brand for the industry’s interactive television services, Multichannel News reports.

Led by Canoe Ventures, the groups picked the name to provide a consumer-friendly brand that will let viewers know about interactive television content. I

It’s probably a better choice than the previous name: Enhanced TV Binary Interchange Format, or EBIF. Canoe Ventures will manage the SelecTV brand and license it to certified cable providers, programming partners and advertisers. More about the brand can be found at selecTV.net.

Some readers will recall that SelecTV was also the name of a subscription pay TV service that was offered in Los Angeles, Philadelphia and Milwaukee. That service was available, through a scrambled signal from some UHF TV stations, from the late 1970s until 1991.
