Cue the ‘Welcome Back, Kotter’ Theme Song: Emmys Save TV Title Music Category

Start singing the "Welcome Back, Kotter" theme song. After the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences proposed nixing the Emmy award for main tittle theme song for television shows, a vote by the academy’s music branch has dead-ended the plan, reports Deadline.com.

Of 121 ballots returned, only 36 voted in favor of eliminating the category and replacing it with a "music for a nonfiction program" category. Eighty-five ballots voted against the move. The proposed change was to have taken effect next year, but the plan was contingent on approval by the music peer group. The change won’t take place now.

  1. So glad to hear this. TV show theme songs can sometimes be so distinctive and special (as well as campy and silly). It was a shame they were even considering dropping this category.
