‘SNL’s’ Lorne Michaels Praises NBC for Conan Situation

May 13, 2010  •  Post A Comment

"Saturday Night Live" executive producer Lorne Michaels believes that only a network as tolerant as NBC would have allowed Conan O’Brien to act the way he did before leaving, reports The Daily Beast.

Michaels said, “I cannot imagine someone knocking the company the way Conan went after the people at NBC and everything else; I cannot imagine that at Disney. I definitely cannot imagine it at Fox.”

  1. And let’s see… Lorne Michaels works for….. NBC!

  2. WOW! I had heard that there was a small group in the industry that thought Conan got a fair deal and was lucky to get paid, I just didn’t think it would come from Lorne. Its not that he isn’t right, but why say something now?
Where was he a couple of months ago?
    A little bit punk-ish.

  3. If the ratings hadn’t been growing I doubt NBC would have supported it.

  4. This reads slightly out of context from the paragraph in the article where the quote comes from; Lorne is talking about the freedom in the creative process, and NBC’s allowance of Conan to knock the company, neither of which he thinks would happen at another broadcast network.
Ergo, its not that Lorne is choosing sides in the matter, but that he applauds NBC for letting themselves get knocks for the situation.

  5. Keep focusing on your blog. I love how we can all express our feelings. This is an extremely nice blog here 🙂
