The creator of HBO’s "The Sopranos," David Chase is ticked off over the way CBS has promoted one of its upcoming shows, reports our friend and former TVWeek TV Editor Joe Adalian at New York Magazine’s Vulture website..
The subject of the controversy is "Blue Bloods," the new Tom Selleck cop drama for the fall season.
In the trailer and on the web site, CBS declares that "Blue Bloods" comes "From the executive producers of ‘The Sopranos’" which is technically true because Mitchell Burgess and Robin Green were writers and executive producers on the show.
Their departure in 2005 was supposedly amicable, but after the fact there was negative scuttlebutt from the pair about differences with Chase. Chase got the HBO lawyers to request that CBS stop using the phrase and CBS has followed through with deleting it on most of the advertising.
