While Fox’s "American Idol" showed improvement on Tuesday night after falling to an eight-year low last week, CBS won the night, the New York Times reports.

A movie-themed "Idol" episode drew 18.7 million viewers at 8 p.m., compared with 17.5 million last week. But CBS won the 9 p.m. and 10 p.m. time slots with "NCIS: Los Angeles" and "The Good Wife," while its 8 p.m. show, "NCIS", was close on the heels of "Idol" with 16.9 million viewers.
