WPIX-TV Reporter Facing Assault Charge After Slapping Ambassador’s Driver

WPIX-TV reporter Vince DeMentri is facing assault charges after he slapped the driver of the Bahamian ambassador to the United Nations, the New York Post reports.

In a classic New York dispute, DeMentri allegedly slapped the driver in a disagreement over a parking space. DeMentri confronted the driver near the Manhattan headquarters of WPIX, telling the chauffeur that he had parked in a spot reserved for New York press. When the driver refused to move, DeMentri allegedly slapped him across the face and drove off, and the driver took down his license plate number.

DeMentri is expected to surrender to police, although he wasn’t able to be reached for comment. His attorney called it "a false allegation." DeMentri had been arrested in 2001 when he worked for WCBS-TV and allegedly impersonated a federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms agent to get by the police barriers near the World Trade Center attacks.
