Congress is taking the unusual step of putting its probe of the Comcast-NBCU merger on the road with a hearing in Los Angeles, the Los Angeles Times’ Company Town blog reports.

The House Judiciary Committee will hold a hearing about the proposed deal at the California Science Center, and will make the proceedings open to the public.

According to the article, the hearing was pushed by Rep. Maxine Waters (D-Los Angeles), who serves on the committee and has also been asking the Federal Communications Commission to schedule hearings on the proposed merger outside of Washington, D.C. Waters has been critical of the how the deal will affect minorities.
