The executive taking over the reins at the American operations of the BBC has had lots of cable experience, reports the New York Times.
It’s Herb Scannell, a former president at Nickelodeon and vice chairman at MTV Networks. In a statement, the company announced that Scannell is the new president of BBC Worldwide America, assuming the role previously held by Garth Ancier.
In his last position, Scannell was at Next New Networks as chief executive. Scannell told the Tiimes that he wants to increase the BBC America US distribution to over 100 million and would like to include American made programs in the BBCA schedule.
He will oversee the BBC America channel, the company’s worldwide production arm, sales and distribution, and the web site BBC.com.
Boo! American-made programs on BBCAmerica … it’s like wrestling on the SyFy Chan – never mind.
Why in the hell would you think LESS British content on BBC America would result in higher ratings??? They’ve only got about 4-5 programs on there now; beside the all-day/all-night Gordon Ramsey experience. Might as well just take the thing off the air.
