Hey AT&T, this REALLY Isn’t Cool: Phone Giant Slashed Prices Yesterday on 3GS iPhones, But You’ll Be a Sucker if You Buy One

Jun 8, 2010  •  Post A Comment

Good to see that the folks at Wired’s Gadget Lab are looking out for us.

In an article posted today they write: "The iPhone 3GS on Monday saw a price cut: The 16-GB iPhone 3GS now costs $150, down from $200, and the 32-GB model costs $200, down from $300. AT&T highlighted the price change on its website with a tag: ‘New prices on iPhone 3GS.’ But when the iPhone 4 arrives June 24, a new 8-GB model of the iPhone 3GS will become available for just $100. And the 16-GB iPhone 4 would be priced at $200, while the 32-GB iPhone 4 will cost $300. (All of these prices are with a two-year contract, naturally.)

The article also points out that the new iPhone 4, when it arrives in a few weeks, will cost about the same as today’s "sale" price. So, the Gadget Lab piece concludes, "This seems like a sale to reel in the suckers."

  1. $49 apparently being “noise” to Wired.
    Once again:
    8 GB Apple iPhone 3GS: $100
    16 GB Apple iPhone 3GS: $150
    16 GB Apple iPhone 4: $199
    32 GB Apple iPhone 3GS: $200
    32 GB Apple iPhone 4: $299
The only “suckers” who will be “reeled in” are those who don’t believe you shouldn’t pay for what you get.

  3. I’ll gear this review to 2 types of people: current Zune owners who are considering an upgrade, and people trying to decide between a Zune and an iPod. (There are other players worth considering out there, like the Sony Walkman X, but I hope this gives you enough info to make an informed decision of the Zune vs players other than the iPod line as well.) store, best price, electronic, automotive

  4. The new Zune browser is surprisingly good, but not as good as the iPod’s. It works well, but isn’t as fast as Safari, and has a clunkier interface. If you occasionally plan on using the web browser that’s not an issue, but if you’re planning to browse the web alot from your PMP then the iPod’s larger screen and better browser may be important.

  5. do you mind if i re-tweet this?

  6. I agree.
