Major League Soccer in Talks to Move to Different Cable Network

Jun 3, 2010  •  Post A Comment

Major League Soccer has begun "very early discussions" to move to a different cable network, which could mean the league would shift from Fox Soccer Channel when that deal expires at the end of the season later this year, reports B&C.

The cable network the league is talking to is Comcast’s Versus, the report says.

"While the talks are completely in their infancy and no deal is remotely on the table or has been discussed, MLS executives are said to be impressed with the way Versus has treated its coverage of the National Hockey League, which is a banner property for the cable sports network," the article says.

But the talks could also be positioning from MLS, which may be looking to use negotiations and the excitement over the World Cup to get a stronger deal with Fox Soccer Channel.

Major League Soccer also has a deal with ESPN and a Spanish-language deal with Univision.
