Hulu is expected to announce a subscription model for inclusion on X-Box Live, reports Gear Live.
Says the story: "We’ve heard from a very reliable source (who has never been wrong before) that Microsoft is set to unveil Hulu as an Xbox Live service at E3 2010. Similar to how Netflix is integreated into the Xbox 360 dashboard, Hulu would be there as well, and would require a subscription fee. We have no idea how Microsoft will charge for it, but our assumption is that you’ll pay for a block of access time (a month? a quarter?) by using Microsoft Points—but again, that part is just a guess. We also have no idea as to whether you will get the entire Hulu catalog that’s available on the web, or if it will be pared down for TV consumption, despite paying the premium."
Whatever happened to the story about how Hulu was set to become subscription based for older/vintage content after May 24th? I’m not complaining, mind you; just curious. Now that summer hiatus is upon us, all that old content (Rockford Files? wow) is the only thing that keeps me engaged with the site – I’d definitely cut it out if Hulu wanted subscription fees (and kept the commercials).
Just one more example of the desire of consumers to be able to access their programming anywhere-anytime. On today, the anniversary of the introduction of home video recorders it is important for the networks and the producers to remember how much money they made off that invention and DVD’s. It is time to release the media in every place where they can. Consumers don’t mind paying reasonable fees. But if they can’t get it at all the hackers will begin to feed the desire. Don’t make the mistake the music industry did.
