Tony Awards Try to Get More–and Younger–Viewers with Green Day; Nevertheless Get Bounced by Basketball Finals

Game five of the NBA Finals between the Boston Celtics and the Los Angeles Lakers scored in the Sunday night Nielsen ratings, reports TVbythenumbers.com.

Leading off the night with the pairing of "Jimmy Kimmel Live Game Night" and "NBA Countdown," ABC collected a 3.0 rating and 3.3 rating, respectively, in the 18-49 demographic for the eight o’clock hour.

CBS’s "60 Minutes" countered with a 1.15 rating average for the hour, tied with NBC’s "Dateline" and ahead of Fox’s "Til Death" and "Sons of Tucson" with a 0.8 average in the 18-49 demo overall.

At eight p.m., the game tipped off on ABC and logged a 4.0 and 4.9 in each half hour in the 18-49 demo. CBS’s first hour of the Tony Award broadcast had a 1.2 and 1.1, respectively.

The basketball game picked up at nine p.m., with a 5.0 and 6.0 in the 18-49 demographic. The Tonys was stuck at a 1.1 for the hour.

From 10-11, the Celtics-Lakers game averaged a 6.25 for the hour in the 18-49 demo, while the Tony ended the night with 1.2 average.
