After ordering two pilots, Spike TV has decided to pass on both projects, an unusual although not unheard of occurrence, reports Nellie Andreeva at Deadline.com.
The projects, "Back Nine" and "Playing with Guns," "aren’t the right projects for us to move forward with right now," said a representative for the network. Spike has two other comedy projects in development, "Rebel League" and "Fort Bush,’ the article says.
Last year, Showtime passed on four pilots it had ordered, including "The End of Steve" and "Possible Side Effects," the story adds.
This is a good trend by the industry. If the pilot isn’t any good the program likely won’t be either. Very few good programs have come out of tinkering with a pilot. It is especially true with the type of edgy programming Showtime and Spike produce. Don’t pour good money after bad.
Completely wrong. Pilots are rarely good. Watch the pilot for 30 Rock or Eastbound and Down and tell me you see the potential in those series.
