In the second promotion from WCBS-TV in New York to the CBS station group in the past two months, David Friend, VP/news director for WCBS, has been promoted to senior VP of news for parent CBS Television Stations, B&C reports.

Friend has been at WCBS since 2006 and will continue to oversee the newsroom there, according to the story.

The position at the CBS-owned stations is a new one. Friend will "take on the increased responsibility of collaborating with the local management teams at CBS’s owned stations to oversee all news production and news operations," CBS said in a statement, adding that he "will facilitate communication and team building, develop newsgathering resources and share best practices with his colleagues across the group."

Friend will also have the task of working with CBS Radio to strengthen TV-radio partnerships in markets where CBS owns both TV and radio outlets. He will also be a liaison with the CBS News management team.

WCBS Creative Services Director Bruce Erik Brauer was promoted in June to senior VP of creative services for the 29-station group.
