In a rare event during what has been a slow summer, the Nielsen ratings shot up Monday night, with the season finale of ABC’s "The Bachelorette" generating most of the excitement, reports TVbytheNumbers.com.

At 8 p.m. "The Bachelorette" kicked off the night with a 3.3 rating in the 18-49 demographic, well ahead of Fox’s "Lie to Me," which logged a 1.8 in the same demo.

The second hour of "The Bachelorette" at 9 p.m. did even better, scoring a 4.1 rating in the 18-49 demo. NBC’s "Last Comic Standing" pulled in a 1.6 in the demo, and Fox’s season finale of "The Good Guys" managed a 1.1.

At 10 p.m. the wrap-up show "The Bachelorette: After the Final Rose" netted a 3.8 for ABC in the demo. NBC’s "Dateline" collected a 1.3 rating.
