Emmys Edge NFL Game for Top Spot in Sunday Ratings; Best Emmy Total Viewer Ratings in Four Years

"[I]in the Time Zone Adjusted fast nationals, the Emmy Awards were down very slightly from last year in adults 18-49 rating (4.1 vs. 4.2) and up very slightly with viewers  (13.503 million vs. 13.471 million viewers).  Only a slight edge, but still the best viewer totals since 2006.  You can check out the table of  historical Emmy Awards ratings going back to 1956."

The NBC broadcast of the 62nd Primetime Emmy Awards was the top-rated program of Sunday night in the Nielsens, according to TVbytheNumbers.com.

Starting at 7 p.m. with the Red Carpet coverage, NBC scored a 1.8 rating for the hour in the 18-49 demographic, beating CBS’s "60 Minutes," which had a 1.3 in the same demo.

At 8 p.m. the Primetime Emmys commenced with a 3.8 rating in the 18-49 demographic, ahead of Fox’s NFL preseason game between the Pittsburgh Steelers and Denver Broncos, which had a 3.3 in the demo. CBS’s "Big Brother" was a strong third with a 2.8 in the 18-49 demographic.

At 9 p.m. the Emmys and the NFL game continued first and second for the hour, with ratings of 3.8 and 3.7, respectively, in the 18-49 demo.

In the 10 p.m. hour the NFL jumped ahead of the Emmys, 3.3 to 3.2, in the 18-49 demographic.

  4. Hands down, Apple’s app store wins by a mile. It’s a huge selection of all sorts of apps vs a rather sad selection of a handful for Zune. Microsoft has plans, especially in the realm of games, but I’m not sure I’d want to bet on the future if this aspect is important to you. The iPod is a much better choice in that case.
