Olbermann Dropped From ‘Football Night in America’; NBC Decides Sports Gig Is Too Big a Distraction for News-Talk Host

The host of "Countdown With Keith Olbermann" on MSNBC, former ESPN anchor Keith Olbermann, has been dropped from the NBC’s "Football Night in America," reports the New York Post.

The powers that be at MSNBC apparently thought that Olbermann was distracted from his political duties by the sports gig, part of NBC’s "Sunday Night Football" lineup. NBC News executives were unhappy when Olbermann missed some Friday night editions of "Countdown" to prepare for the Sunday NFL games.

Olbermann’s tenure on the NFL broadcast began in 2007.

NBC denied that the removal of the outspoken left-leaning political commentator from the sports lineup had anything to do with his politics.
