About 20 years ago, the blue power ranger on Fox’s “Mighty Morphin Power Rangers” went to live on another planet. But the reality behind the character’s inter-planetary move was that the actor who played the part, David Yost, walked off the set after being teased about being gay, reports EW.com’s PopWatch blog.

“The reason that I walked off is that I was called faggot one too many times,” Yost says. “I had just heard that several times while working on the show, from creators, producers, writers, directors… Basically I just felt like I was continually being told I was not worthy of being where I am because I’m a gay person. And I’m not supposed to be an actor. And I’m not a superhero.”

Yost says he had a nervous breakdown after leaving the show, but since has been working as a producer for reality shows including “Temptation Island.”

PopWatch said Yost was interviewed by NoPinkSpandex on YouTube. Here’s a copy of part of the interview:

  1. Yeah, the Big Blue Meanie in the sky hates gays and so most folks in this country feel free to deny basic rights to gays (our of fear of the imaginary Blue Meanie). Nothing has changed today. Not much news here.

  2. Keep focusing on your blog. I love how we can all express our feelings. This is an extremely nice blog here 🙂
