Sam’s Club Commits to Wi-Fi, Puts Marketing Heft Behind Internet-Connected TVs

In a push to promote and sell Wi-Fi capable television sets, Sam’s Club will make its stores free WI-FI zones, reports The Wall Street Journal.

The idea is to make consumers more comfortable with the technology by demonstrating how it could work for them personally from their smartphones or PDAs.

"This will allow a member to walk up to a Samsung LCD Internet-enabled TV and see how to find his Facebook page or stream video from Vudu. It is an intimidating category with lots of complexity," Sam’s Club Chief Executive Brian Cornell told the publication.

The free Wi-Fi will also be helpful for consumers who might choose to price-check or do research on the Net before making a purchase. Sam’s Club, the membership warehouse chain from The Walmart Company, expects to have the free Wi-Fi in more than 500 stores this November.
