The mysterious identity of the Stig, a masked driver on BBC’s top-rated car program "Top Gear," has been revealed, reports the New York Post.
The Stig is someone who has also made appearances as himself on the show, and who has long been rumored to be the Stig: Ben Collins, a driver in Formula Three, American Le Mans and other racing series.
Since 2003, the Stig’s secret identity has been kept under wraps, adding an air of mystery to the show. The Stig would appear to do the most dangerous stunts and driving.
Collins was identified through financial records by the Sunday Times of London.
In America, "Top Gear" has been a top draw on BBC America, and a new American version of the show will debut on History Channel late this fall. No word on whether the U.S. version will include its own version of The Stig.
