Two weeks after news leaked that the Academy Awards were contemplating a date change for the 2012 Oscars broadcast, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has decided to stick with the current late-February date for now, the Los Angeles Times reports.
The academy may still switch the date for 2013, as this statement from the organization explains: "A different date still remains a possibility in subsequent years, and the academy’s staff and board will continue to evaluate the advantages and challenges associated with such a change."
A move to late January or early February has been under consideration by the Academy, based in part on falling TV ratings. One advantage of such a move would be to steal the thunder of some of the many other awards ceremonies taking place around that time of year. The 2011 ceremony is scheduled for Feb. 27.
