CBS has bought a new crime drama from "CSI" showrunner Carol Mendelsohn, reports the Hollywood Reporter’s The Live Feed blog.

The project, as yet untitled, will adapt a series of suspense novels from writer Thomas Perry, the story notes. The books star Jane Whitefield, a half-white, half-Indian woman who helps people hide who are in danger, the article says.

Craig Sweeny, a producer for "Medium," will be the writer and executive producer on the script deal, while Mendelsohn and Julie Weitz are non-writing executive producers. Carol Mendelsohn Productions and CBS TV Studios are producing, the article says.
