Federal Authorities Sue Fox News for Allegedly Retaliating Against Reporter who Complained of Gender Bias

The Equal Employment Opportunity Commission is suing Fox News Channel for allegedly retaliating against a reporter who had complained of gender bias against the network, reports The Hollywood Reporter.

Fox News reporter Catherine Herridge filed a complaint in 2007 alleging discriminatory practices, such as unequal pay and job conditions based on gender and age, the story says.

Fox found no evidence of bias in an internal investigation, but the EEOC alleges that the network later included language in Herridge’s employment contract that was meant to stop her from future complaints, the story says.

The network agreed to remove the language after she complained to the EEOC and refused to sign. The EEOC is seeking unspecified monetary damages and a court order to enjoin Fox from retaliating against other employees, the article notes.

The article adds that a spokeswoman for the network declined to comment.
