Shades of Wilbur: Elijah ‘Frodo’ Wood In First TV Series Role Will Play a Man with a Talking Dog [This Item Has a Bonus Video Guaranteed to Delight You]

Elijah Wood will appear in his first television role as a man with a talking dog on a new FX series, reports the Los Angeles Times’ Showtracker blog.

Wood, known to many as Frodo Baggins in "The Lord of the Rings" trilogy, will star in "Wilfred," based on an Australian show by the same title. It’s about an introverted man named Ryan who struggles through life until he meets Wilfred, a talking dog, the story says.

Wilfred, played by Jason Gann of "The Wedding" is described as "part Australian Shepherd, part Russell Crowe on a bender," the story says.

Wood’s character views his dog as a man dressed in a dog costume, although everyone else sees Wilfred as a regular dog, the article notes.

The FX show will debut in summer 2011 and was written by David Zuckerman of "Family Guy" and "American "Dad", who will also be the showrunner and executive producer, the story adds.

And now, as promised, this item’s special bonus video: It is, of course, of course, the opening of Mr. Ed, the old show about the talking horse, including its famous theme song,
