ABC’s ‘Modern Family’ Tops Wednesday Ratings, CBS Wins the Night Overall

The Emmy Award-winning ABC sitcom "Modern Family" continues to build on its popularity, coming in as the top-rated show of Wednesday night, according to TVbytheNumbers.com. CBS, however, finished the night as the top-rated network overall, both in the 18-49 demo, with a 3.3 average rating, and in total viewers, with 12.2 million.

At 8 p.m. CBS’s "Survivor" was in first place with a 3.7 rating in the 18-49 demo, better than ABC’s "The Middle" and "Better With You," which had ratings of 2.9 and 2.5, respectively, in the same demo. NBC’s "Undercovers" and CW’s "America’s Next Top Model" were tied for last place with 1.3 ratings in the 18-49 demo.

ABC’s "Modern Family" had a 4.8 in the 18-49 demo for the top half of the 9 p.m. hour. At 9:30, ABC’s "Cougar Town" had a 3.0 in the same demo. CBS’s "Criminal Minds" logged a 3.8 rating in the 18-49 demo for the hour, well ahead of NBC’s "Law and Order: SVU," which had a 2.1 in that demo, and CW’s "Hellcats" with a 0.9 in 18-49.

At 10 p.m. CBS’s "The Defenders" was on top with a 2.3, compared with NBC’s "Law & Order: LA" and ABC’s special "In the Spotlight," which tied with 1.9 ratings, all in the 18-49 demographic.
