CNN announced today that it will put a veteran of NBC News in charge of its new talk show, “Piers Morgan Tonight,” which premieres in January 2011.
Effective immediately, the job goes to Jonathan Wald, former executive producer of NBC’s “Today” and “Nightly News” and former senior VP of CNBC. The announcement, which was expected, was made by CNN Executive VP Ken Jautz.
“Jonathan has spent more than 20 years as a top producer in broadcast and cable television news and has the unique ability to produce television that is smart and provocative,” said Jautz. “We are thrilled that he’ll be joining the CNN family.”
Wald, a three-time Emmy winner, has most recently advised AOL on cross-platform projects. He was senior VP of CNBC from 2006-09, with responsibility for all business news.
Wald said: “CNN is an important news organization and a powerful worldwide brand. I am so excited to join this team. I can’t wait to get started and to collaborate with Piers on redefining the long-form interview program in prime time.”
