Football Again Rules Sunday Ratings

The Fox overrun of the late NFL game and the NBC broadcast of the New England Patriots vs. the Pittsburgh Steelers were the top-rated programs Sunday night, reports TVbytheNumbers.com.

NBC finished the night as an easy overall winner, both in the 18-49 demo and in total viewers. The Peacock Network averaged a 5.9 rating in 18-49 for the night, with Fox second with a 4.5 rating. ABC was far behind in third place with a 2.5 rating in the 18-49 demo, just ahead of CBS at 2.4.

In total viewers NBC was well ahead of the pack with an average of 15.6 million to Fox’s 11.0 million, CBS’s 10.9 million and ABC’s 9.0 million.

At 7 p.m. Fox’s NFL overrun and "The O.T." averaged a 7.0 rating for the hour in the 18-49 demographic, while NBC’s pre-game show had a 3.0, CBS’s "60 Minutes" drew a 1.8 and ABC’s "America’s Funniest Home Videos" scored a 1.6 rating for the hour, all in the 18-49 demographic.

At 8 p.m. NBC’s "Football Night In America" and the kickoff scored a 6.6 in the 18-49 demo, while Fox’s "The Simpsons" and "Cleveland Show" had a 3.9 rating and a 3.1, respectively, in the same demo. CBS’s "Amazing Race" earned a 2.7 and ABC’s "Extreme Makeover" a 2.2, both in the 18-49 demo.

NBC’s football broadcast continued to rule in the 9 p.m. hour with a 7.4 rating in the 18-49 demo, much stronger than ABC’s "Desperate Housewives" with a 3.7 and CBS’s "Undercover Boss" at 2.7, both in the 18-49 demo. Fox’s "Family Guy" and "American Dad" had a 3.3 rating and a 2.6, respectively, in the 18-49 demo.

At 10 p.m. NBC ended the night with the game logging a 7.0 for the hour in 18-49, well ahead of ABC’s "Brothers & Sisters" (2.5 rating in the 18-49 demo) and CBS’s "CSI: Miami" (2.4).
