Is Scripted Programming on Friday Nights Doomed to Extinction?

Nov 22, 2010  •  Post A Comment

Is scripted programming on Friday evenings is doomed, following ABC’s non-scripted line-up securing top ratings for a second consecutive week?

That’s the question Deadline.com’s Nellie Andreeva asks

Last week, "20/20" was the highest-rated Friday program, after the network’s "Primetime" won on the previous week, the story notes. Meanwhile, NBC has unveiled its midseason schedule, which only includes reality shows and news magazines for Fridays, and Fox has cut down its Friday scripted programming to 1 hour from 2 hours, the story notes.

That left CBS with the sole scripted-focused Friday evenings, which it had been winning "week after week, proving that it was still worthwhile for the networks to try to program Friday night with scripted series. Will the change of the guard on the night further undermine Friday as a viable scripted night?"
