Los Angeles to Jamie Oliver: Nah, Our School Kids Aren’t Interested in Your Healthy Lunches

The Los Angeles Unified School District has turned down an offer by British chef Jamie Oliver to remake its school food into more healthful options, reports the Los Angeles Times.

Oliver is planning on bringing his reality TV show "Food Revolution" to Los Angeles for its second season, the story notes.

But the LAUSD isn’t interested. "Our feeling was that his time would be better spent or invested in other communities," Melissa Infusino, the director of partnerships in the superintendent’s office, said. An Oct. 25 letter from L.A. Unified, signed by Infusino, said that taking part in the show would be too time-consuming, the article notes.

The district has been forced to shorten the school year, and given its budgetary issues, "participation in the ‘Food Revolution’ program would prevent us from committing 100% of our efforts to our students," the letter said.
