The Last Laugh? Comedies Actually Bucking Trend of Lower Ratings This Season

With few new shows catching on with viewers and some dramas losing viewers, several television comedies are actually bucking that trend, reports USA Today

"Modern Family" on ABC is up 35%, while Fox’s "Glee" has climbed 43%, with other comedies such as "The Big Bang Theory" and "How I Met Your Mother" also finding more viewers, the story says. The exception is NBC’s comedies and Fox’s cartoon block, which have declined in viewers, the story adds.

The reason may be that viewers are tired of crime dramas and reality series "and are looking for something new," says Gary Newman, chairman of 20th Century Fox Television, which produces "Glee" and "Modern Family."

  1. Look at the content of Glee and Modern Family. They are shows that can be watched and enjoyed in a family setting. Hollywood thinks that drugs and sex sells but just look at the numbers.
