More than 9,000 fans of the late Michael Jackson have signed an online petition asking Discovery Communications not to air a television special that re-enacts his autopsy, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Jackson’s estate has also sent an angry letter to Discovery about the program, which it calls "offensive" and "exploitative," according to TMZ.com.

The show is set to air Jan. 13 in the U.K. Discovery declined to comment on the letter, which was sent by John Branca and John McClain, who are co-executors of the estate, The Hollywood Reporter adds.

The letter reads in part that the show is in "shockingly bad taste … motivated solely by your blind desire to exploit Michael’s death, while cynically attempting to dupe the public into believing this show will have serious medical value."
