Suspect in Ronni Chasen Murder, Confronted by Police, Kills Himself

Dec 2, 2010  •  Post A Comment

A suspect in the murder of Hollywood publicist Ronni Chasen, confronted by police, has killed himself, reports Andrew Blankstein in the Los Angeles Times.

According to the report, "A man described as a suspect in the slaying of veteran Hollywood publicist Ronni Chasen fatally shot himself at a Hollywood apartment house Wednesday evening as Beverly Hills police were serving a search warrant there. The shooting occurred about 6 p.m. at the Harvey Apartments on Santa Monica Boulevard."

The suspect’s name was Harold, the story said. No last name was given. It was not known if he was suspected of being the person who actually shot Chasen or suspected of being an accomplice, the story said. Chasen was killed at about 12:30 a.m. on Nov 16, 2010.

Here’s what happened, the article said, "When police officers approached the man in the lobby of the apartment building, he backed up and refused their orders to raise his hands. He pulled out a pistol and shot himself in the head, the sources said. He died at the scene."

Furthermore, the article says, Harold told other tenants in the building that he was an ex-convict and said he’d never go back to prison.

According to the story, a man named Brandon Harrison (who is probably a tenant in the building, though the story does not make his identity clear) had this to say about Harold: "He said Harold told him that he was supposed to be getting $10,000, at one point saying it was for a job he did and on another occasion saying it was from a lawsuit. Harrison said he had no way of corroborating Harold’s claims. ‘I don’t [know] if anything he told me was true,’ Harrison said. "The man was very strange.’ "

Other than saying that Harold was a suspect in the Chasen murder, the story gives no other details about why Chasen might have been killed.
