Discovery Changes Its Mind About OWN

Jan 5, 2011  •  Post A Comment

Oprah Winfrey’s new cable network, OWN, is expected to be profitable in its first year, according to co-owner Discovery Communications, reports The New York Times’ Media Decoder blog.

Discovery previously had said not to expect the venture to turn a profit until 2012 or 2013, the article notes.

Brad Singer, Discovery’s chief financial officer, said at an investors’ conference Tuesday that OWN should be profitable before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization in 2011 "because of ad acceptance and good performance."
