Verizon Wireless is hoping to convince customers who just bought a new phone over the holidays to switch to the iPhone next month by giving them a gift card worth up to $200, reports the Los Angeles Times’ Technology blog.
Subscribers who bought a new phone between Nov. 26 and Jan. 10 will receive a Visa debit card with up to $200 if they swap the phone with an iPhone by Feb. 28, the story notes.
Nevertheless, customers will still have to pay the full retail price for the Apple smartphone, which can amount to as much as $750 before applying the gift card, the article adds.
But Consumer Reports is advising consumers may want to hold off until the summer, when Apple traditionally ships a new version of the iPhone. The iPhone 4 "is a transitional phone to tide Verizon through until the summer," Consumer Reports notes.
