Bigger Screen in the Works for Next Apple iPhone

Indications from component suppliers in Asia are that the upcoming Apple iPhone 5 will have a bigger screen, InformationWeek reports.

And it needs it, according to the story. The publication writes: “When Apple launched the iPhone in 2007, its 3.5-inch display was outrageously big. It has since been surpassed by the large displays on Android devices, many of which come in at 3.7, 4.0, 4.3, and even 4.8 inches. Holding the iPhone 4 (or any iPhone, for that matter) next to a device such as the Motorola Droid X, which has a 4.3-inch display, makes the iPhone’s display look downright puny.”

The story says the iPhone 5 will increase screen size to 4 inches, measured diagonally, up from the current 3.5 inches.

Among the questions that remain to be answered, according to the story, are how the performance of applications will be adjusted to match the larger screens, what kind of resolution the displays will have and whether the new screen will be a Retina Display.

The story notes that Apple has not confirmed the reports.

  1. And apparently, the new iPhone will have AM, FM and satellite radio included.

  2. Don’t forget that it will also be powered by magical dust from ground unicorn horns.
