Billy Ray Cyrus–Miley’s Dad–Says TV Show ‘Hannah Montana’ Destroyed His Family

Billy Ray Cyrus was apparently ready to talk when he sat down for an interview recently with GQ, because he served up plenty of juicy tidbits, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Among them, he compared his daughter, Miley Cyrus, to “train wreck” Anna Nicole Smith and said “Hannah Montana,” the Disney TV show that made his daughter a star, destroyed his family.

Cyrus split up with his wife, Tish, in 2010 and says he is not on speaking terms with Miley, 18. And he blames much of it on the TV show on which both he and Miley starred. "I’ll tell you right now–the damn show destroyed my family … it’s all sad," Cyrus said.

He talked about shooting the show’s final season in early 2010. "Season four, it was a disaster," Cyrus said. "I was going to work every single day knowing that my family had fallen apart, but yet I had to sit in front of that camera. I look back and I go, How did I ever make it through that? I must be a better actor than I thought."

Cyrus also said he willingly took the blame for many of the controveries that have tainted his daughter’s career.

"Every time something happened in Miley’s career, every time the train went off the track, if you will–Vanity Fair, pole dancing, whatever scandal it was–her people, or as they say in today’s news, her handlers, every time they’d put me … ‘Somebody’s shooting at Miley! Put the old man up there!’ Well, I took it, because I’m her daddy, and that’s what daddies do. ‘OK, nail me to the cross, I’ll take it.’”
