"This morning [Wednesday, Feb. 2, 2011], Rupert Murdoch will finally unveil The Daily, a news app that he hopes will put his News Corporation front and center in the digital newsstand of the near future," write Jeremy W. Peters and Brian Stelter on The New York Times Media Decoder blog.

The article continues: "The Daily, an all-purpose publication designed solely for iPads and other tablet computers, will be introduced to the media at the Guggenheim Museum in Manhattan around the same time it goes on sale in the iPad app store. The publication will cost 99 cents per week, or $40 per year."

The story adds, "Mr. Murdoch has taken great interest in the development of The Daily from its earliest stages. His appearances in The Daily’s offices at News Corp’s Manhattan headquarters has been a common sight for staffers, who see him there about once or twice a week meeting with top managers."

Full Disclosure: TVWeek’s former Executive Editor, Tom Gilbert, is now working for The Daily. Tom had been with us for 10 years. A TVWeek tip of the cap to Tom and everyone at The Daily for a successful launch!
