An Oscar-winning director who is also a cult favorite has closed a deal to direct the pilot episode of an untitled medical drama at CBS, reports our friend Joe Adalian at New York Magazine’s Vulture blog.

It’s Jonathan Demme, who won his Academy Award for directing "Silence of the Lambs’ and who has also directed "Crazy Mama," "Stop Making Sense," "Swimming to Cambodia" and "Philadelphia."

The project comes from Oscar-nominated ("Erin Brockovich") writer Susannah Grant and follows a competitive surgeon whose live is upended by the death of his ex-wife, the story notes.

It’s the fact that she’s communicating with him after her death that really turns his life upside down, the article says. It adds that Demme read the script, liked it and told his representatives to accept it.
