NBC has already started early renewal discussions with "Law & Order: SVU" stars Mariska Hargitay and Chris Meloni, with the show’s outgoing showrunner saying he believes the pair will return for the show’s 13th season, reports TVLine.com.

“They’re as committed to playing Olivia and Elliot as they were the first day I walked in and saw them in the interrogation room,” said Neal Baer, the show’s departing showrunner. The story says that before NBC can renew the series, it needs to make sure the cast will be on board to return.

“I would say that chances [of renewal] are very good, given that it’s the highest-rated drama on NBC,” Baer said, according to the story.

The article adds that another sign that the show will continue is the fact that the program is looking for a showrunner to replace Baer.
