‘American Idol’ Breaks With Tradition, Plans to Air Taped Performances by Finalists

"American Idol" will tape this week’s first performance featuring the top 13 contestants, reports the New York Post.

Says the Post, "Since the series began 10 years ago, perform ances by the "Idol" finalists have always been aired live. But the longtime "Idol" Web site mjsbigblog.com reported yesterday that Wednesday night’s show is being taped tomorrow night instead."

No reason was immediately given, although it’s believed that the show may be taping early because of the difficulties of getting the right sound mix on air. The story adds that taping a two-hour show with two of the three  judges being new, and 13 contestants might also require some editing.

Of course those who see "Idol" on the West Coast have always seen a taped version of the "live" show.
