Apple May Expand AirPlay Audio Service to Include Streaming Video

Mar 24, 2011  •  Post A Comment

Apple is considering expanding its AirPlay audio service to incorporate streaming video from an iPad or iPhone to television sets, Bloomberg reports.

The plan would have Apple licensing its AirPlay software to consumer-electronics makers, who would then use it to enable devices to stream TV shows and other content, the story says. Apple now only licenses AirPlay for streaming audio, but it could roll out the new services later this year.

The idea would be to spur usage of Apple’s services and devices in consumers’ homes, the article notes.
